At LAS we take great pride in using the finest materials and techniques in all of our manufacturing processes – especially when it comes to our very own line of HomeGard Shutters.

After every HomeGard Shutter has been custom fabricated to our customers’ unique specifications, they go through a painting process called Powder Coating. In short, Powder Coating is an electrostatic process wherein the paint is actually adhered to the aluminum using an electric current. From an engineering stand point, it is more durable and holds up much better than, for instance, wet paint.

Powder Coating is also an energy efficient alternative to other conventional methods – the application process for Powder Coating emits far less hazardous waste than other methods and the final product is an exceedingly more durable, long-lasting shutter with an aesthetically pleasing and consistent finish.

At LAS, our specialized team of powder coaters breaks down the process into three steps to seal your HomeGard Shutters with a promise of quality and longevity:

Step One: Pre-treatment.

Before the paint goes on, a pre-wash chemical solution is prepared and sprayed on the work piece to rid the bare shutter of any and all oils, soil, metal shavings, greases and metal oxides. This pre-treatment is crucial to the process because it refines the material to enhance the bonding of the powder to the metal base of the shutter.

Step Two: Powder Application.

At LAS, we seal your HomeGard Shutters with utmost quality, using the most common and energy efficient process available in the market. Rather than applying liquid paint to the metal shutters, a dry powder is applied electrostatically using what’s known as a corona gun. Essentially, the corona gun transmits positively charged electricity to the powder so that it sticks when sprayed onto the grounded metal shutter.

Step Three: Curing.

Once the powder application step is complete, the shutter is then transferred directly to the oven for curing. This final step exposes the charged powder that has bonded with the metal to high levels of heat to melt and fuses to alter the powder elements to form a smooth, strong, and superior shell around each and every shutter.
